Location And Distribution
Below is a map of the location of the Orange-Bellied Parrots. As shown, the parrots breed in the south western areas of Tasmania and in the winter they migrate to the south coast of Victoria and South Australia. In the winter, they spread from 35.4167° S, 139.1167° E to 37.8667° S, 147.9833° E. When breeding, they range from 42.1500° S, 145.3167° E to 42.7667° S, 146.0500° E. The areas that the parrots breed in are always the same every year - they return to with 5 metres of their previous breeding place, same as in the migratory season.
The Orange-Bellied Parrots (OBP's) live mainly on the coastal areas of Tasmania, in the South West Wilderness World Heritage Area. The parrots breed in this area during summer, and during the colder months, they migrate north towards the southern parts of Victoria and South Australia to the salt marshes and swamps. The most significant site found for OBP habitats in the far South West is The Yambuck Wetlands.
